Members of ASHA have been working with many of the Mustang Rescue Ranches in giving them FREE advertising in the American Sulphur Horse Association News Magazine and on the message board.
The American Sulphur Horse Association has a rescue fund, in case, a member would see a Spanish-type Sulphur Horse at auction, making funds available to the buyer to be compensated for own monies spent.
The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy has accepted ASHA's application for membership. When we applied for membership, ALBC sent this to us: This is one population that should be kept free of introductions from other herd management areas, as it is Spanish in type and therefore more unique than horses of most other BLM management areas." Genetic testing by Dr. Gus Cothran of the University of Kentucky has revealed that, as Dr. Cothran stated: "They (the Sulphur horses) definitely have Spanish ancestry and possibly are primarily derived from Spanish Horses". Additional testing by Biopsytec Analytik has verified Drs. Sponenberg’s and Cothran's evaluations.”
One of ASHA’s Board of Directors has joined the NMA. We respect the efforts The National Mustang Association has made towards the betterment of the Sulphur Herd.
We may be the "new" Sulphur Horse Association, but we are determined to help the captive born and the wild Sulphur Horse in any way we can, according to our governing by-laws. The ASHA will become a positive force in the preservation of the Sulphur Herd.
